Brucellosis Testing

Brucellosis testing is critical when deciding to breed. Canine brucellosis is a contagious bacterial infection caused by the bacterium, Brucella canis (B. canis). This bacterial infection is highly contagious and is transmitted through the genital secretions of an infected dog. It can affect both males and females. The infected dogs will usually develop an infection of the reproductive system which can cause infertility, difficulty getting bred, and aborted litters.

Luckily, it is very easy to test for brucellosis by running a quick blood test in house. At Strafford Vet Clinic, we highly recommend to test all breeding dogs that way future litters are not compromised.
