Caesarian Section

A caesarean section, or C-section, is major surgery performed to remove puppies from the uterus. This is most commonly performed as an emergency procedure when there is difficulty with natural birth. We can also schedule an elective C-section with in-house progesterone timing, and accurate breeding and due dates.

If you did not breed your dog at our clinic and you are wanting puppies delivered via caesarean, we do recommend bringing them in around 58-60 days in gestation for a progesterone test. We will also check reproductive vital signs such as milk production, vaginal discharge, and body temperature.

If your dog happens to go into labor when the clinic is closed and requires a C-section we do have a reproductive doctor on call. Please call the clinic and wait for the after hours answering service. You will then be connected with the doctor on call.

** After hours emergency C-sections do have an additional emergency fee. **
